A few weeks ago a dad inquired about senior photography for his daughter. As you can imagine this is uncommon since most of the time I deal with either the senior or her mom. I was extremely excited to do so. Sam’s dad is a family friend of my husband’s family. And also a previous co-worker of mine.  My husband’s mom used to baby sit Sam as a baby. So you can imagine she’s in a few family albums. I remembered seeing pictures of her as a baby thinking how gorgeous she was. So when I was able to book this session, I was super excited to photograph her for her senior photos.

Sam is a senior at E.A. Laney high school. I could have not asked for a better young lady to showcase my skills. Sam had specified she wanted Wrightsville Beach as her backdrop for her session. So with that said I went to work. I spent the weeks leading up to her session searching for special locations that exemplified the location without necessarily just showing water and some sand.

In order for me to create the perfect session, Sam and I communicated daily till her session date. We discussed what props she wanted to use. We talked about those special photo’s her parents wanted. And also spoke about her wardrobe and her style. This definitely allowed me to properly prepare for her session. Without all the details I had acquired from her emails, and texts, we could have not created a session that truly showed her personality. She gave me so much information and options with her clothing that we actually had to condense our ideas to fit it into our time schedule. Sam, was extremely open with her wardrobe and definitely bounced all her ideas off me. All her wardrobe choices definitely were synced to all the special locations we were going to shoot at.

Through our lengthy emails I found out that she was an athlete. She is a six foot beauty who plays basketball, and volleyball. She is extremely well spoken, and a vibrant young lady. When I finally met her on Saturday evening all my assumptions of her personality were all true.  Sam was beaming the minute I saw her on our session day. She was rocking her hair and makeup from Belks Carmen! Carmen! which was styled By Laurel Cain.

As our session progressed she became more and more natural in front of the camera. She was extremely cooperative, a great listener, and followed directions effortlessly. She made me giggle, laugh out loud a few times, and I absolutely adored my time with her.  We talked about her future, her life, and how excited we both were that the weather was holding up for our session. It was a little cloudy and gloomy and thankfully the light that was produced was gorgeous for our shooting time. I always feel like I’m hanging out with my little sister with my senior girls, and this time was not any different. I absolutely adored Sam’s soft heart, and carefree nature. She truly is someone you would be lucky to know and that will do great things in the future.

She made my life as senior photographer the easiest it could have been!
