give-yourself-a-breakAs the days approach of leaving my 20s behind, I have to admit I am a bit nostalgic. I am reminded of my age when I see the youth of today carrying their cell phones everywhere they go. They are almost made now with a velcro type of friction on their hands that allow them to carry their phone without ease and its quite annoying. They will no know the struggle of playing a song over and over and over again, and the cassette coming undone like spaghetti through your tape player. They will not know the struggle of waiting a year for a VHS to come out, the struggle it was to go home and wait patiently to go on the internet as your AOL account buffered and how you anxiously awaited hearing YOU GOT MAIL (so of course you knew you were thought of, and important).. Not to mention the fun it was talking to your friends, and people around on the world through instant messenger!I guess with my 20s coming to end, I feel like my childhood is getting put in a treasure box only to be looked at, but being forced to be put away. I am now old enough to be fully accountable for my actions, no longer can I hide behind the 20s and being not so mature, or responsible. 30s are like full on ADULTHOOD.. so I guess..

I’m feeling this way means, I’m ready to own my age.

So, after all is said and done. I think my maturity has definitely changed, goals have changed, and some have been added. I obviously thought my life would have been different, there would be more checks on the list I made in my teens, and also my bank account being a bit more hefty in zero’s… but atlas.. I have to learn to not be so hard on this person I am becoming.

So, for the next 30 years, I promise to be more gracious, honest, and accommodating to the person of my 30s. I promise to understand that life doesn’t always go your way, but life is good, bright, and it’s what you make of all the obstacles and turns we experience. And for that, I am grateful for my 20s, because I am married to a wonderful human being, my family is strong and I know they are my biggest cheerleaders, and for my career.. it’s happening, and unfolding before my eyes. Sometimes, it’s not to the speed I want, but this 2o year old girl got to go to Italy, photograph tons of memories, and events for others, and even got to experience a few life changes for herself.

So cheers to the next 30  and being a little bit more nicer to our younger and older selves… 🙂

“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”

My most favorite to photograh!

He is my heart, and I know that one day he won' t be around but our memories and the photographs I've taken of him, will always live on. Creating something you're able to look back on when the ones you love are gone is the reason why I love photography. Photographs are not just moments but they are heirlooms. The only regret I have in my own personal collection of photographs is that I did not have more images of the people who have left this world.

A photograph is probably one of the only things you will own that will have MORE value as it ages.
