One of my favorite cities in the USA…Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is one of my favorite places on this earth! I was born in Providence, Rhode Island; and I’m really happy to say that I love being part of the “Ocean state” and oddly enough I’m quite the water baby and nautical baby at heart. (and by water baby I mean, like not the Jimmy Buffet kinda a way, but more like the Kennedys at Cape Cod type of way) =)
(Yeah, that’s me sporting my redsox’s cap, [circa 2006] back in the day.. 🙂 and…Yes, I love the Patriots, and Redsoxs, so of course this small town would be on my favorite list…)
I was raised in Miami Beach, Florida but I always had the itch to go back to my birth state. During the winter of 2006, I was lucky enough to study at the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, Massachusetts. Although my schooling wasn’t what I thought it would be, I completed my bachelors degree there and got to revisit the states that I had visited as a baby. What is wonderful about living in New England is that you have a plethora of towns you can just take day trips to, and there all beautiful and unique in their own special way..
Newport, RI is one of the places that I visited almost every other week. I would plan out day dates with Newport. We were almost in a serious relationship but I had to cut ties with Newport at the end of that year to move to North Carolina.
My fondest memories of this small coastal town were at night… This is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been able to walk through. My late night excursions were always adventurous as I would walk near the cliff walks near Salve Regina University. The cliff walks are undescribly amazing. The heights and the way the walkways curve are out of this world. If your afraid of heights, it may not be for your taste. But, if your willing to give life a whirl, than definitely try and see this area.
(These images were taken almost at sunset, and it was a cloudy day that day, as you can tell.. But it doesn’t take away from how beautiful the cobblestone is off the cliffs, and how gorgeous the water looks)
I still think of Newport, Rhode Island and all the memories that I created there.. Magnificent views, and secret nooks and crannies that made you feel like you were in a spy movie of some sorts… It’s one of those places that you feel lucky enough to have gone there and explore. Whether it’s old fort’s, mansions that are out of this world, beautiful gardens, wonderful seafood, great mom and pop ice cream shops, and you can’t forget that beautiful ocean shore… it’s definitely a place to put on your bucket list. ….
Here are a few of my favorite images I captured along my travels..
