Wynwood Walls Photo Shoot
As a photographer I get to put on many hats, I’m an editorial photographer, wedding photographer, portrait photographer, product photographer, senior photographer, lifestyle photographer, and even sometimes dabble in fine art photography, and family photography.
So, you really don’t just become one specified photographer, only if this is your sole goal. My goal is to become GREAT in all aspects, and to really fine tune my portfolio to showcase that.
Because I’m based in Wilmington, NC we don’t necessarily have urban type of feels in our city. I wanted to add a bit more versatility in my portfolio. North Carolina provides me with the most beautiful landscapes you can imagine! As a wedding photographer, being in Wilmington NC (NC Wedding Photographer) I’ve got mountains and an ocean that give me a beautiful backdrop to compliment my beautiful clients.
But, with my editorial work, if it’s not a cottagey, garden driven shoot, I’m usually leading my fingers to book a flight and head out to a larger city. With that said, I got the opportunity to do so in Miami, Florida. What a better place to explore and practice my editorial photography skills!
Florida is pretty much my home state. I lived there almost all my life, I was born up north but Florida was where I started school, established relationships, and where I pretty much did everything up until I was 19. I lived in North Miami Beach and we soon traveled up the east coast of Florida too, Coconut Creek, Tamarac, Parkland, Boca Raton, and headed near Ormond Beach where we last resided at (before packing up and fleeting the state:) )
Wynwood Walls in Miami, was definitely new territory, this was not there when I was there! So, it was exciting to explore the streets of Miami near this area, and to walk to new art from wall to wall. I was able to shoot with Mercedes Guiterrez.
I found her online on instagram, and she was everything I envisioned! We had tons of fun walking and fighting the rain that day, and got to share our time with my good friend Amanda Perna [the house of Perna], who supplied the clothing that Mercedes wore.
It was an awesome experience and I believe these images really helped me get comfortable in a new type of photographic style.
Wynwood walls offer colorful walls, that are vibrant in graffiti art. We passed walls that were gorgeous abstract images to walls that were as beautiful as a Monet painting.
Below our a few, and I’ll post the full session in a followup post 🙂
