Lauren and Daniel met in Massachusetts at a Maritime Academy. Daniel a native to the Virgin Islands, and Lauren an all-American gal from Cape Cod, MA. These two happened to cross paths at a party that a mutual friend was having. And up until now the rest is history because Daniel put a ring on it, and now we are planning a wedding!
Lucky for me, Lauren found me on the net, and we have been chatting for almost what feels like a year. But really about 7months or so. Because we began talking so long ago, our timing to meet was definitely over due!
Lauren introduced herself to me with a warm smile and hug as she got out of their Jeep. I could tell automatically that we were going to get along when she embraced me like a friend who I hadn’t seen in a couple of years. And what makes this gal even cooler is her love for the sea and that she has a whale necklace. (Which if you know I am secretly obsessed with whales) And she’s a Massachusetts girl! I mean, who doesn’t love a good ole’ New England girl! As the time passed by, I noticed that both her and Daniel become more comfortable with me having a lens in their face 🙂
Lauren is a carefree easy going, giggly, smart, and kind soul. Daniel is protective, sweet, funny, and his love for Lauren is truly apparent on how he holds her hand and worried about her bare feet as she walked through seashells. He was very cute about us posing them and I loved watching them go back and forth as they told me how they met.
Lauren and Daniel actually found our first location in Oak Island. They frequent the beach a lot and had shared that they had been exploring the area to find their perfect spot for the engagement shoot. It was a dock that was on a vacant lot for what looked like would be a very big home.
Fortunately for us though, the home wasn’t built and we were allowed to go onto the dock without anyones objections. We started our session here and the golden light literally was pouring through the clouds. It was the most prettiest light for a beautiful couple. During our session I also got to meet their kids, and what cute kids they do have!! The bestest kind too, the fury kinda kids 🙂 We had the pups do some poses with us, and through the whole process Robbie and I were worried they were going to jump in the water. But, they didn’t, they held out. You could definitely tell they wanted to rush into the water though.
From the dock we headed off to the ocean side of Oak Island. And let me tell ya the weather was so windy on this side of the Island. The waves were crashing onto the shore, and you would have thought we were preparing for a hurricane. Mother nature definitely sent me a hail mary by giving me some really fun elements to produce a bunch of nice moments.
We had movement, and the most softest light, and of course you can’t forget, the icing on the cake, when the sky revealed a cotton candy palette! We even had the moon make an appearance at the end of our shoot.
I can’t say that I have a favorite because I am partial to almost all the images, but I am grateful for such thoughtful and kind clients. And I can’t forget to mention, seriously, how photogenic these two are! Their extremely comfortable around one another and their smiles, and hugs, were truly contagious. They definitely kept me and Robbie giggling and having fun as we spent time together. Their love for one another is incredibly apparent and I can’t imagine how beautiful their union will be when they tie the knot.
Cheers to filling your love story with the memories below and only growing those memories to fill many more pages and chapters of what will be your fairytale love story.
Carolina Beach State Park Engagement Shoot:
Ashley was referred to me by a previous client. And nothing is a better compliment as a photographer to have people actually refer you to their friends. It’s definitely a wonderful feeling! Ashley and I had corresponded for what felt like a year, and finally had the chance to do our engagement shoot. The shoot was planned for the summer but because of a move and also some other life obstacles, we planned for October. And I am so happy that we were able to do a fall shoot.
Nothing is better than not sweating with your clients, let me tell ya! And also, nothing is more pretty than the fall colors on tree’s and spending time in the crisp air that fall provides. A fall engagement session also allows for layering, and just fun props that can be used to tell a story. Just like my engagement session with Andrew and Ashley. They arrived with a basket of quilts, thermoses and mugs.
Ashely and Andrew wanted something forest feeling but classic all in the same way. So, with that said we figured out the Carolina Beach State Park would be a great fit.
Andrew lead Ashley through our forest trail, and it was nothing but super magical with the light creeping through the cracks of the trees. We continued to wander through the woods to give the light a chance to dim down a bit on the other side of the park. Andrew laid the quilt out for Ashley and they had a little picnic away from it all..
It was really sweet to see Ashley reassure Andrew how handsome he is, and how cute and trusting these two are with one another. They are adorably cute together, and I love how Ashley calls Andrew “lamb”.. (Yes, really, so sweet right =) )
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite styles of photography because of my ability to share in the love of my clients for one another. And these two did not disappoint. Andrew looks at Ashely likes she literally has fallen from heaven and he’s seeing her for the first time.
Our second half of the afternoon was literally like we step into the west coast. The rocky terrain and the marina just screamed Pacific Northwest and it’s always so nice to create a scene or a feel that isn’t even native to your area. The fact that Ashley and Andrew are quite fashionable definitely did not hurt our session 🙂 It was like I was photographing a JCREW ad. I loved their wardrobe choices, and their colors were spot on! Everything was absolutely perfect!
** Congrats you too! I can’t wait to share in your wedding day, and so happy we got a chance to meet and share in such a fun afternoon together! You guys are the sweetest and so excited for more fun times ahead 🙂 **
Jessica and Matt’s love story began in 2013…
Jess and Matt agreed to do a sunrise shoot and of course I did a happy dance! As I have mentioned in previous post, I LOVE sunrise sessions. The light never disappoints, and in most cases our locations feel like they were created just for us.
We started our session in Fort Fisher and the sun slowly crept through the clouds. That morning we were experiencing a bit of rain, so I was glad to have the rain stop so we could start our shooting. Fort Fisher is an area that never disappoints with nature providing such beautiful colors to capture.
Jessica and Matt were nothing but amazing to photograph. When two people are so comfortable around one another it truly shows through print. It not only made my experience truly wonderful, but I hope shows in the images.
As we progressed in our shoot they became more loose and more comfortable around me and the product was amazing. Matt is sweet, and such a gentlemen. Whenever Matt would look at Jessica she would literally light up and could never hide her smiling around him. They were gitty and cute, and had such an innocent dynamic around one another.
I loved how pure and romantic, and endearing their relationship is.
Once we finished in Fort Fisher, we headed off to the Fort Fisher beach area. Their was a significant location here that provided the start of this new journey. Matt proposed to Jessica at the gazebo area near the cove so photographing near/around this area was such an awesome thing.
During the planning stages of the engagement shoot, we decided to run with the idea of a beach day with Jessica and Matt. This meant bright colors, and lots and lots of fun moments. So with that said, I incorporated beach balls, beach tubes, and had them bring a towel. I felt like this theme would help capitalize on their personalities and show how their environment is very similar to their own qualities.
Because the day was cloudy we had different tones and moods in the shoot and definitely capitalized from it. It sometimes felt like we were shooting in the west coast. The light was magical.
One of my favorite moments were when we finally braved the currents in the ocean. Matt, was such a trooper trekking Jessica through the water. We definitely giggled a bunch and experienced tons of wipe outs. The water was extremely active and I am so glad we got to capture such genuine moments.
I cannot wait for their wedding in May! I am so grateful for our meeting, and so grateful for sharing this experience. I literally felt as I was shooting good friends. I had a wonderful morning and can’t thank them enough for such a bright, and colorful shoot.
