We met underneath a tree and sat in a park bench in Little Washington, NC. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was so excited to be meeting new possible clients. Let alone I had never even heard of the town, so my adventurous heart was so thrilled to see what it was like.
I was in my early stages of wedding photography and was about to meet two people who I have been lucky to have in my corner ever sense. They trusted me that day with what I knew and what I promised I could deliver. But the most magical thing was the seconds that turned into minutes, and the minutes that turned into 2 hours of talking about life, our past, and what we love the most. We spoke about how we met our significant others, and spoke about our families, and as we hugged good bye, I knew the strangers we had just met two hours prior were no more. We had made friends.
Sascha and Kristen had me photograph their wedding and I had no idea how much their story would mean to me. Although we don’t live close by, they have made it a point to always see me and do our annual family photos that have meant so many different things each year. Whether it was photos to celebrate their accomplishments in marriage, getting photos that represented their new family with their dog Ellie, and also the most beautiful occasions of celebrating baby news and and the hopes of becoming parents. Each and ever session has lead me to know to them a little more, and feel even more lucky to know people like them. They are kind, and sweet, and intelligent and I can’t imagine two people who are more deserving of having a child.
Jonas is a miracle that I know Kristen and Sascha have been waiting for a long time. Their patient hearts and adoring families helped create the most ideal situation for him to enter this world. He is light, he is hope, he is proof, he is family.
Photographing this little person was extremely special to me.Newborn photo shoots aren’t my speciality, but I sure do love seeing the interaction that first time parents have with their new child. It’s literally the equivalent to opening up your favorite gift on Christmas day. Or the feeling you might get when your with your most favorite people. I don’t know what it is to be a parent, but I do know what it is to feel love, and to see the love that created him. I wanted to not only give them great images to recall on, but I wanted Jonas to one day look at these same images and feel the love that his parents had for him in his earliest days of life.
