Memory Mondays New England

Today I feel a little nostalgic towards my old stepping grounds, New England. I’m a Florida girl with a New England twist. I was born in Rhode Island. Rhode Island is the Ocean State, the smallest state in The United States and I’m proud to say the place I was born at. So New England was always what I thought my home was because of being born there. But also a place I always felt I needed to be at.

So when I finally graduated high school I decided to move up the coast and eventually move out of the state. I found myself going to the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, Massachusetts. I moved not knowing the area and just going by research that I had found online and luckily was able to call Millis, Massachusetts my home. This was my home front during my college school years. I lived there for a short period of time. But the memories I made have been embedded into my soul for truly a lifetime.

I met the most humble and nice people I could ever imagine crossing paths with. These people invited me not only in their families life but also into their hearts. I remember going to Thanksgiving dinner to a co-workers home and feeling blessed to have been a part of their holiday tradition. I can even remember feeling so lucky to receive doggy bags from one of my co-workers. She was (is) a mom of two boys and always had  a soft spot for me. She always brightened my day by sharing her great Argentina treats of empandas, that often reminded me of home.  I had an instant family without even trying.

Even today I still wait in anticipation for my beautiful christmas cards from friends that I have had for over six years now. The people I worked with truly became my identity while I was there. They showed me parts of the area I would have never of guessed to look for. They also sparked my traveling bug within me. I have been lucky enough to stay in contact with these great people through social media and follow their lives even though I’m not with them today.

Today, I remember the beautiful smell of fall that engulfs the New England coast line as we prepare for it here in Coastal Carolina. New England Fall is not like you have ever experienced before. It feels new, and crisp and fresh. It literally feels like you are being reborn again as you step out and take it all in. Not only is it something you can breathe in, but something you can just let yourself fall into with all the beautiful scenery that unfolds before you.

Places to visit:  Millis, Massachusetts, Nantucket, Newport, Cape Cod, Cape Elizabeth, Portland, Maine, Coastal CT, and New Hampshire Mount Washington. So pretty much all up the New England Coast line.

Needless to say I am missing my farm town that I lived at, the beauty of driving into the beautiful city of Boston in a short 45 minute drive. Also, missing the long drive to a beautiful coastline of Newport, Rhode Island. And also missing the fresh seafood that I used to eat at on the Massachusetts Maine border towns of Salem, and Cape Elizabeth (my future retiree homesite).
